The puffin gets a wardrobe (and a family, and a passport)

September 30, 2026

The last few days of work before release were a bit of a blur. Here's what happened.

Dressing up

Puffins already look like they're wearing a tuxedo, so it only felt right to give them more clothes. There's now a full Wardrobe with hats, glasses, scarves, jackets, boots and feathers, plus whole outfits: Mountie, firefighter, fisherman, hockey, pirate, tourist, lumberjack and more. Every item has its own way to earn it. Some are for finishing levels, some for how many fish you've fed over time, and some are for odd things you did in a single run. A few are mystery items, and you won't know what they are until you earn them.

You also get a family to dress. Your partner and your puffling each have their own outfits, and you can name them. Hit the dice for a Newfoundland name: Touton, Figgy Duff, Bakeapple. The puffling got a makeover too. It's a soft, smoky ball of down with big eyes, and it gets its own baby things like a bonnet, a soother and a toy.

Showing off

More coast

New levels arrived, each one adding a new problem. Elliston brings sand lance, which are only half as filling as capelin. Cape Race brings fog, a foghorn, and lamps at the burrows so you can find your way home. Then five more: Middle Cove, Cape Spear, Grand Banks, Placentia Bay and Baccalieu Island, with orcas and fishing nets to deal with. And there are now three seas to choose from: Calm, Choppy and Rough.

The game also speaks French now (Canadian French, and it says “tu”).

Things I got wrong, again

The boring but important stuff

There's a privacy page and a feedback box. The game only counts plays anonymously so I can see which levels are too hard, it keeps that data in Canada, and it sends nothing when you share unless you tap Share. There are no ads, no trackers and no accounts.

Next log: release day.
