I took screenshots of every screen on a phone and looked at them the way a stranger would. I didn't like what I found. The pretty parts were fine. The structure wasn't.
- The sound buttons covered things. On almost every screen, the music and sound buttons floated over the bottom of the panel, including the Island's “Add a ledge” button. Panels now leave room for them.
- The end screen was a wall of buttons. It now leads with the result and one big button, and Share, postcard and the leaderboard invite are quieter.
- The Wardrobe made you scroll past everything to reach the clothes. The mirror is smaller and the tabs are one scrolling row.
- Records opened on eight tiles. Four now, with the rest folded away, and the 19 levels you haven't reached are one line.
- The start screen had too many links. Records plus a More menu now. The 20 level dots became a Map button on phones.
- The map had overlapping pins. Today's pin sat on top of Up next. Pins now push each other apart.
- Small phones now fit the start screen. I also checked a foldable-sized screen, 1398 × 2034, to be ready for those.
Two bugs from the real app
Two bugs came from looking at the real app, not the code. The iPhone Simulator showed my new Island button squeezing the button row into huge circles. And I spent a while chasing “I can't see any sea glass on the Daily.” The code was fine. The browser was serving an old copy of the game, so I now run the local server with caching switched off.
